Martha Boyd advises clients who are competing for and executing contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense and other federal agencies. The U.S. government's regulations for its suppliers are vast, and Martha helps contractors comply with those rules when they encounter day-to-day human resources problems and personnel decisions, and she directs them on policy implementation. While Martha is based in Baker Donelson's Nashville office, she represents clients all over the United States.
Ms. Boyd's experience in labor and employment matters extends beyond government contracting issues. She advises both for-profit and non-profit employers on day-to-day questions regarding hiring, discipline, leaves of absence, and human resources policy development and implementation. Ms. Boyd trains supervisors and managers in complying with employment laws. She investigates allegations of employee wrongdoing, including harassment and discrimination and employee fraud. She represents employers in all types of litigation in state and federal courts, and has successfully defended employment discrimination claims under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act and other state and federal statutes.
As a U.S. Army veteran, Ms. Boyd also works with defense contractors that supply goods and services to the U.S. military to comply with the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and other export compliance standards. Ms. Boyd's experience enables her to assist government contractors develop and implement codes of ethics, internal controls, reporting mechanisms and other elements of a compliance program and provides training to contractors working in the U.S. and overseas on ethics and compliance, procurement fraud and other areas.
Ms. Boyd is a former Major in the United States Army Reserves. She served for six years on active duty as a Military Intelligence officer, with assignments in Germany and Maryland. She continued her service in the Reserves, serving as a Civil Affairs officer with the 350th Civil Affairs Command in Baghdad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ms. Boyd has a secret-level security clearance.
