Gunnar works extensively in the software service industry space, successfully assisting clients with navigating the rapidly changing software patenting landscape. His software service industry experience includes work with network traffic management, cloud data services and data management, enterprise management, fintech and insurance technologies, artificial intelligence, internet of things (IoT) and industrial internet of things (IIoT), imaging technologies including positioning and medical imaging, 3d printing, internet and electronic commerce, business methods, blockchain technology, computer hardware, and other software generally.
Additionally, he assists clients in other technology areas, including communications technologies, electrical circuits, semiconductor technologies, refractive and reflective optics, optical detectors, optical communications equipment, laser-related technologies, LED, OLED and other display technologies, energy-related technologies, medical devices and equipment, robotics, electromechanical devices, MEMS devices, microfluidics, and other mechanical disciplines.
Gunnar is regularly involved with overseeing the development and management of patent portfolios for clients, as well as with post-grant administrative proceedings, such as post-grant review of covered business methods, ex parte reexaminations, inter partes reviews, post-grant opposition practice, reissues, and supplemental examinations. He also counsels and assists clients with noninfringement and invalidity property opinions, IP due diligence and IP licensing matters. Gunnar has substantial experience in assisting clients with IP litigation matters, including strategies with suits involving nonpracticing entities.
Gunnar is a frequent speaker on topics such as recent changes in patent practice and procedure; the strategic procurement, management and monetization or defense of patents, trademarks and copyrights; IP risk management; software patent eligibility; and IP licensing matters.
