Tarter Krinsky & Drogin partner Richard A. Williamson is a highly regarded litigator handling commercial litigation, trials, and appeals, product liability, mass torts, professional liability, partnership, corporate and commercial matters.
Richard served as national counsel for one of the nation's most prestigious professional firms on the brink of financial collapse. He led the legal team to develop and implement a complex, long-term strategy that included negotiation and nationwide litigation with several major groups of creditors that resulted in the restructuring of the firm's debt.
For over 30 years, Richard served on the national trial teams for several defendants in asbestos personal injury litigation. He crafted and supervised the implementation of a new approach in defense of tens of thousands of cases on behalf of a significant defendant that enabled the defendant to settle the cases. Richard was appointed by the court as co-liaison counsel for all defendants and headed up the representation of two large corporate defendants for more than a decade.
Richard has been selected by judges to assist in the resolution of numerous high profile matters. Richard has also served as a court-appointed Special Referee, as an arbitrator and as a private and court-appointed mediator in major business disputes. He is called upon to represent law firms and other partnerships (including individual partners) in connection with partnership disputes and break-ups.
In addition, Richard is passionate about teaching. He is actively involved in lecturing and training other lawyers in litigation and trial techniques, including regularly teaching for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and lecturing on American Lawyer, Practising Law Institute, New York State Bar Association and New York County Lawyers' Association panels. He is the co-author of the chapter entitled "Partnerships" in Commercial Litigation in New York State Courts, 4th ed., Thomson West and NYCLA, 2015 plus annual supplements. Richard has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America (2012-2021) and New York Super Lawyers (2006-2020).
