Mia Butzbaugh has more than 15 years of experience in employee benefits law and specializes in representing multiemployer pension and health and welfare plans.
Ms. Butzbaugh has served as general counsel to many types of multiemployer plans, from large pension plans with alternative investments to small vacation plans, from plans terminated by mass withdrawal to those launching variable annuity programs. With this experience, she is able to readily assist trustees with issues that are common to collectively bargained plans and also to identify and help solve problems that may be unique to a given plan.
Ms. Butzbaugh counsels clients about all aspects of ERISA and Internal Revenue Code compliance. She particularly enjoys collaborating with trustees and the team of service providers—actuaries, third party administrators, investment consultants, delinquency counsel, and others—who, like her, are dedicated to multiemployer plans and their participants.
Ms. Butzbaugh has been recognized by Chambers USA for Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation since 2021 as a “Leader in Their Field” and in 2020 as a “Notable Practitioner.” She has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for Employee Benefits (ERISA) law since 2018.
