For more than two decades, Julie Matonich has been fighting to make a positive difference in the lives of her clients. Through that experience, she has come to understand the special care required for cases involving children who have been harmed or have died due to malpractice. She is a dedicated advocate for infants, children, teens from all communities and backgrounds who have suffered physical and emotional injuries. Julie’s combination of compassion, diligence, and expertise has earned her a reputation as a top medical malpractice lawyer.
A graduate of Northwestern University and George Washington University National Law Center, Julie has spent her entire professional career advocating for individuals’ rights and safety. She has been lead counsel in numerous jury trials in state and federal court cases, and has secured multimillion dollar settlements for many of her clients. In 2010, Julie was part of the trial team that achieved a record-breaking $23.2 million medical malpractice verdict on behalf of a young family in a catastrophic birth injury case.
No matter the size of the case, Julie brings personalized counsel to all of her clients, working to understand their unique stories and concerns.
Julie’s passion for improving the lives of families has translated outside of work as well. In 2015, Julie co-founded Children of Incarcerated Caregivers, a non-profit that works to reduce the risk of intergenerational incarceration by promoting the best interests of children when their parents are involved in the criminal legal system. Julie’s concern for children impacted by parental incarceration stems from the experiences of families she met while working as a criminal defense lawyer during the first decade of her career.
Julie has served on the Weisman Art Museum Advisory Board for more than ten years, including two years as Board Chair. She also served for more than two decades as an Advisory Board Member for the Page Foundation, which supports students of color through scholarships and mentoring to provide opportunities for them to achieve their goals.
