Education
Mr. Coan received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration
with honors from the University of Northern Colorado and his Juris
Doctorate degree from the University of Denver.
Admissions & Associations
Mr. Coan is admitted to practice before all courts in the States of
Arizona, Colorado and North Dakota. Mr. Coan
currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Colorado Bar
Association’s Business Law Section Council and is the Co-Chair of the
Financial Institutions Subsection. Mr. Coan also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain Innovation Initiative, Inc. He is also a participating member of the Colorado Bar Association's Real Estate Section and
serves on the Advisory Board for the Colorado State University Everitt
Real Estate Center.
Experience & Accomplishments
In addition to his legal work, Mr. Coan has participated in the
ownership and management of several successful businesses providing him
with a unique client-oriented perspective related to legal services and
the resolution of legal matters.
Mr. Coan has a passion for community service and currently serves as the Secretary on
the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the Larimer County
United Way. Previously, Mr. Coan served on numerous boards and
commissions in northern Colorado including the Judicial Nominating
Commission for the 19th Judicial District, the Board of
Directors for the Weld County Bar Association, Chair of
the City of Greeley Planning Commission, Chair of the
City of Greeley Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the City of Greeley Economic Development Advisory Committee, Chair of the
Greeley Chamber Local Government & Business Affairs Committee,
Director and Treasurer for the Greeley Chamber of Commerce, and Director and President of Northern Colorado Youth Hockey.
Mr. Coan has lectured on topics such as public policy and planning,
business contracts, business ethics, business entity selection and real
estate law related topics. He also routinely lectures on oil and gas
law.
Practice Areas
Mr. Coan's practice is focused on corporate and real estate
related matters including purchase and sale transactions, business
organization and capitalization, corporate M&A transactions, land
planning and development, oil and gas development and transactions, all issues related to financial institutions and lender/creditor rights involving real estate and commercial loan transactions.
