As a middle school student, Daniel Berner devoured every John Grisham novel he could get his hands on. His early fascination with the life of an attorney has, if anything, grown stronger in the ensuing years—although Daniel concedes his idea of effective lawyering is far more informed than it was back in the 90s.
“It was during college that I became convinced a career in the law was right for me,”notes the 2005 Political Science graduate of the University of Washington who minored in Law, Societies, and Justice. “Through my studies, I came to understand and appreciate the pivotal role attorneys play in improving the lives of the clients they serve. I am incredibly proud to be a member of the profession.”
Since graduating from the Seattle University School of Law in 2010, where he served as a member of the Moot Court board and competed successfully in local and regional competitions, this Mason County native has been an assistant AG with the Washington Attorney General and an associate at highly regarded law firms in Seattle and Olympia.
“I have strong ties to Southwest Washington,” Daniel adds, “and I plan on living and working in Olympia for the long term. The opportunity to join the Phillips Burgess legal team means I can interact on a daily basis with some of the finest attorneys in the region and, in the process, contribute to the firm’s reputation for outstanding legal work.”
“To be a successful lawyer requires diligence, compassion, meticulous preparation, and the ability to think outside the box.” -- Daniel Berner
A gifted litigator who currently serves on the Executive Committee of the State Bar Association’s Litigation Section, Daniel is active in the community as a volunteer attorney with the Family Support Center of South Sound. He is a 2018 graduate of Leadership Thurston County and lives with his wife and two young children in the Steamboat Island area of Thurston County.
