After graduating, he began his career as a prosecutor in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office under Richard Devine, where he tried a number of cases and argued before the First District Appellate Court of Illinois. He then served as an "elbow" law clerk for the Honorable Justice Patrick J. Quinn of the Illinois Appellate Court, First District, assisting the judge in drafting court opinions.
