After graduating, he began his career as a prosecutor in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office under Richard Devine, where he tried a number of cases and argued before the First District Appellate Court of Illinois. He then served as an "elbow" law clerk for the Honorable Justice Patrick J. Quinn of the Illinois Appellate Court, First District, assisting the judge in drafting court opinions.

He has written numerous articles for several national publications and is a monthly columnist for the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, the nation's oldest daily legal publication. As a successful premise liability lawyer and aviation accident attorney, Mr. Dunn has also been invited to speak on various topics for the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers' Association, the Property Loss Research Bureau, and Liability Insurance Research Bureau.
