Beth A. Slagle is a 24-year
attorney at the law firm of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP and maintains an
active practice focused principally on business disputes, insurance coverage
and employment law. She also represents
a number of “serial entrepreneurs” and
actively assists with business and operational issues. Ms. Slagle is the Chair of the Insurance
Coverage Litigation Group and Chair of the Diversity Committee.
Ms. Slagle’s
insurance practice includes representing entities and individuals in a variety
of insurance coverage claims related to comprehensive general liability,
directors and officers, errors and omissions, primary, excess and umbrella
insurance, business, homeowners, life and health, disability, and employers
practices liability insurance. Her
involvement in these cases has translated directly into the recovery of
millions of dollars for many companies, including more than $100,000,000 for a
single corporate client. For her work in the insurance coverage arena, she has
been named to Best Lawyers in America 2010-2014 (Insurance Coverage); 2013-2014 (Commercial Litigation). Her
commercial and contract practice involves counseling and trial experience in
business related disputes, including claims for breach of contract, fraud,
negligence, post-employment restraints, covenants not to compete, and the UCC.
In addition
to her insurance and business litigation practice, Ms. Slagle has significant
experience in employment law matters, including conducting internal
investigations for employers, counseling, drafting and litigation in matters
involving employment agreements, restrictive covenants, separation agreements,
workplace violence, discrimination, and hiring and firing decisions.
She has been selected
for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super
Lawyers and is AV rated by
Martindale-Hubbell. In 2009, the Women & Girls Foundation honored
Ms. Slagle at the Art of Justice: Women Shaping the Law event, and in 2008, she
was selected as a YWCA Greater Pittsburgh
“A Tribute to Women” awardee. In 2005
Ms. Slagle founded, BizChicks, a non-profit focused
on providing education, guidance and resources to professional women in a
number of different areas, including business planning, coaching, health &
wellness. Programs featured by BizChicks are Chicks & Chat events
(networking events) and BizChicks LunchMixes (power hour
lunches). 2011 brought the newest
expansion to BizChicks with BizChicks Online, an online magazine
for business women, written by women and for women. Ms. Slagle was also chosen in 2005 as a
finalist for the ATHENA Award, and
in 2004, Ms. Slagle was recognized as a "Fast
Tracker" by the Pittsburgh
Business Times. In addition to
numerous other non-profit and board commitments, she was the Founding Chair of
the Board of Directors for Dress for Success Pittsburgh and serves on the
Advisory Council of Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship.
Ms.
Slagle, a North Hills resident, graduated in 1987 from Youngstown State
University where she majored in finance and received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Business Administration. In
1990, she received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School
of Law.
