Ted Smyth has been litigating insurance and tort cases for 31 years in all State and Federal Civil Courts in North Carolina. He has been listed as a Super Lawyer in North Carolina's Super Lawyers Magazine for 2006, 2008-2013(Insurance Law). He has been named to Woodard/White's "The Best Lawyers in America" for Insurance Law(2007-2013), Commercial Litigation(2009-2013), Personal Injury Litigation(2009-2013) and Bet-the-Company Litigation(2010-2013). He is active in the Wake County Bar, as the President of the Tenth Judicial District in 2012, and as a member of the Bench/Bar and Professionalism Committees. He has been a frequent speaker to lawyer related organizations on insurance and tort issues, including the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Advocates For Justice(a plaintiff organization) and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys(a defense organization), as well as the Wake Forest University School of Law Continuing Legal Education Program. He has authored articles and book reviews on numerous insurance and tort-related topics. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and serves as Vice President to the local affiliate in 2013. He graduated from Colby College in 1978 and Wake Forest University School of Law in 1981, after serving on the Law Review there. He enjoys hiking in the North Carolina mountains, reading, sailing and travel. He has lived in Raleigh since graduating from law school in 1981, with his wife and three daughters.
