In 2020, Ms. Nohara returned to private law practice after eighteen years of legal public service with the Principal Legal Advisor for the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in DHS’ San Francisco and Honolulu offices. During her tenure with DHS, Ms. Nohara extensively trained attorneys, deportation officers, and special agents, and collaborated with the United States Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement on a variety of task forces and issues relating to financial crimes, privacy, and immigration. In 2015, Ms. Nohara received a Director’s Award from Sarah Saldaña, former director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement under President Barack Obama.
Ms. Nohara currently represents lenders and borrowers in real estate and asset-based secured transactions and sellers and buyers in various land transactions. She also leads JMY Law Group’s immigration practice, with an emphasis on employment, investor, and family-based visas; worksite compliance; and citizenship and nationality law. In 2018, Ms. Nohara earned the designation of Global Mobility Specialist with the Worldwide Employee Relocation Council, demonstrating her commitment to and understanding of, the field of global talent mobility. Prior to her legal public service, she was a litigator in private practice in Honolulu, concentrating in construction and surety litigation.
