Sagun KC, PhD, focuses his practice on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, particularly in the area of pharmaceuticals, medical diagnostics and biotechnology. His scientific expertise includes protein/peptide therapeutics, antibody and RNA biologics, biotechnology, genomics, bioinformatics and personalized medicine. He has represented clients before the USPTO and in appellate proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Sagun assists clients with strategic portfolio analyses of patents in the relevant sectors, which includes performing IP due diligence, client counseling, and rendering well-formulated defensive and/or offensive opinions on patent-related risk, e.g., on issues related to freedom-to-operate, invalidity, non-infringement and/or unenforceability of patents. Sagun has worked closely with startups, academic institutions, and both small and large corporations and is a member of McDermott’s Life Sciences Entrepreneurs Acceleration Program (LEAP).
Sagun received his Bachelor of Science in biological chemistry from Bates College and his doctorate in molecular pharmacology and chemistry under a joint program between Cornell University and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2016, Sagun graduated from Catholic University Columbus School of Law, and also attained a concentration in intellectual property law through Catholic University of America’s Law & Technology Institute.
