Ron is a member of Frost Brown Todd LLC and co-chair of the Firm’s bankruptcy and restructuring group. He also serves as a member of the Firm's Executive Committee. He concentrates in finance and reorganization law, primarily in the area of bankruptcy and out-of-court workouts. Ron actively represents corporate debtors, borrowers, secured lenders, landlords, creditors’ committees, court appointed receivers and automotive customers in bankruptcy proceedings, restructurings and out-of-court workouts. Ron also represents purchasers of entire businesses or business segments both in and out of chapter 11 and regularly counsels equity funds in matters involving distressed real estate.
Ron was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy in 2010. In addition, he is listed in the Bankruptcy Section of the 2003 - 2014 editions of the Best Lawyers in America® and was named one of Ohio’s leading bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers by Chambers USA®: America's Leading Lawyers for Business in the 2004 - 2013 editions and an Ohio Super Lawyers®, 2004 - 2013 by Law and Politics Magazine.
Ron's debtor experience includes serving as the partner in charge of the Firm’s representation of Horizon Natural Resources Company, AEI Resources Company, Sencorp, Inc., Jillian’s Entertainment Holdings, Inc., GLC Limited, SAI Holdings, Limited, HealthEssentials Solutions, Inc., Lightyear Communications, Inc., OneStar Long Distance, Inc., Kentucky Electric Steel, Inc., The Kruse Hardware Company, QDS Components, Inc., Bell Furniture Company and Polycel Structural Foam, Inc. in their chapter 11 cases. In addition, he represented Daymonex Limited in its chapter 15 case filed in the Southern District of Indiana, the first chapter 15 case filed in the Southern District of Indiana, Biltrite Rubber and its affiliates in their chapter 15 cases filed in the Northern District of Ohio, the first chapter 15 cases filed in the Northern District of Ohio, and ROL Manufacturing of America and its affiliates in their chapter 15 cases filed in the Southern District of Ohio, the first chapter 15 cases filed in the Southern District of Ohio.
Ron's committee representations include the official committee of unsecured creditors appointed in the AppleIllinois, LLC, Computer Systems Company, Inc., Bucyrus Community Hospital, GOE Lima, LLC, EaglePicher Holdings, Inc., Blackhawk Automotive Plastics, Inc., Organized Living, Inc., Samaritan Hospital, RMA Management Services, Inc., Buehler Foods, Inc., 5B’s, Cook & Sons Coal Company, Ciao Cucina Restaurants and Apollo Steel Company chapter 11 cases and the unofficial committee of landlords in the Sam & Libby Shoes and Track 'n Trail restructurings.
He has represented the debtor-in-possession and senior secured lenders in the Burger Turkey and Burger Pork Farms, Milacron, Inc., Triad Resources, Clearwater Natural Resources, J. Peterman & Company, Brendamors Sporting Goods, Rehab Designs of America, Hydraulic Technologies, Inc. and Hamilton Foundry chapter 11 cases and secured noteholders in the Consolidated Energy and The Wornick Company chapter 11 cases.
Ron has also handled significant transactions for non-debtor parties including Pristine Bay in its acquisition of the assets of Berkely Premium Nutraceuticals, Berean Christian Stores Endeavor in its acquisition of the assets of the Berean Christian Store retail chain and Gibson Musical Instruments in its acquisition of the assets of Baldwin Piano & Organ Company.
Ron has represented landlords and developers in numerous retail chapter 11 cases throughout the United States, including Petrie Retail Stores, Kmart, Regal Cinemas, Oreck, Steve & Berry Stores, Service Merchandise and Musicland Stores.
