Joshua Johnson is an Associate in Bowles Rice’s Charleston, West Virginia office and focuses his practice on civil litigation defense. Joshua routinely represents clients in state court, federal court and administrative proceedings throughout West Virginia. He has advocated for his clients on a variety of legal issues in commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes, construction litigation, healthcare litigation, contractual claims, wrongful death claims, medical malpractice claims, and automobile accident claims.
Joshua has first and second chair trial experience and has contributed to several appeals before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. He also has significant pretrial litigation experience and has participated in all aspects of discovery. He regularly argues motions, takes and defends fact and expert witness depositions, and participates in mediations. Joshua is a member of the West Virginia State Bar and is licensed to practice in West Virginia and before the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia.
Prior to joining Bowles Rice in 2014, Joshua honed his research and writing skills as a law clerk to The Honorable James A. Matish, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Harrison County, West Virginia. His experience also includes work as a land/legal intern for Chesapeake Energy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and as a personal research assistant to President Emeritus and Professor of Law David C. Hardesty.
