Joseph Bluestein is a shareholder in Dentons Sirote’s Birmingham, Alabama office. He is a member of the Trusts, Estates & Wealth Preservation practice group. Joseph’s practice focuses on business, tax, and succession planning issues, particularly for closely held, family-owned businesses and professional medical and legal practices, providing counsel to all in connection with corporate, legal, and financial problems—and solutions. Joe negotiates and structures sales and purchases of businesses, and he analyzes and forms entities to acquire and operate companies. Joe works with numerous professionals and business clients on their estate plans, including advising clients in planning their estates and insurance to accomplish personal goals and minimize estate taxes. He represents clients in the qualified retirement plan area, which includes legal work for profit-sharing plans, money purchase pension plans, defined benefit pension plans, target benefit pension plans, ESOPs, 401(k) plans, and union-negotiated retirement plans. Along with an extensive employee benefits practice, Joe drafts retirement and welfare plans, assisting clients with respect to cafeteria plans, group life insurance plans, self-insured medical plans, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans, such as rabbi trusts, secular trusts, and severance pay plans.
