John brings a unique set of skills to his labor and employment law practice at the firm as a result of his previous work in both the federal government and the private sector. Before entering private practice, John served as an attorney in the Solicitor's Office of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and as a field attorney with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Prior to joining Wiggin and Dana, John was a partner in a New York City law firm, where he was engaged in a national practice representing employers in a wide variety of labor and employment matters. The insights John gained from his broad and extensive experience has contributed to the success he has achieved handling all kinds of high-stakes and complex labor and employment cases for his clients before the DOL and the NLRB, as well as in all other labor and employment law forums.
John is a Partner in the firm's Labor, Employment and Benefits Department, where he practices in all aspects of labor and employment law, with a concentration in labor relations such as in NLRB proceedings, collective bargaining, grievance and arbitration proceedings, and union organizing campaigns. He also regularly defends employers in matters involving allegations of discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, and OSHA violations. He is also a valuable resource for clients dealing with complex human resource issues such as discipline and discharge, wage and hour, FMLA, employment and non-competition agreements, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Working with Robin Martocci (the firm's Affirmative Action Specialist), his group prepares affirmative action plans, provides technical assistance, and defends federal contractors in all phases of OFCCP compliance audits.
John's practice spans industries such as health care, manufacturing, publishing, financial services, technology, public utilities, and nonprofit organizations. He also has significant experience representing colleges, universities, and other private educational institutions in labor and employment matters and in student matters such as student discipline, ADA compliance, sexual assault and harassment, Title IX, handbooks, and policies.
