Mr. Goodis is a founding member of the Thompson Goodis law firm and has been practicing in the Bay Area since his graduation from Stetson University College of Law. Mr. Goodis graduated with honors from Stetson and was a member of the school's U.S. News and World Report top-ranked trial team. He has been honored by The Order of Barristers. Mr. Goodis has repeatedly been named by Florida Trend as one of Florida's Legal Elite and by Law & Politics as a Florida Super Lawyer.
Mr. Goodis is involved extensively in the defense of physicians in professional liability cases, and his trial practice includes the successful defense of suits at the trial and appellate levels, including medical and dental malpractice claims, personal injury claims and products liability claims. Mr. Goodis is also involved in representing physicians and dentists in administrative actions initiated by The Agency for Health Care Administration and the Department of Health. Mr. Goodis also defends legal malpractice cases where the underlying case involves medical negligence issues. He is a frequent lecturer for various groups in the area of medical negligence defense.
Mr. Goodis has also defended other types of professional negligence cases, including cases against attorneys and insurance agents. He has been involved in the defense of general liability cases and products liability cases, including catastrophic injury claims brought against pool manufacturers in State and Federal Courts across the country. Mr. Goodis has argued successfully before the Multi-District Litigation Panel in a medical products case and before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Goodis is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Florida Defense Lawyers Association, and the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Goodis is past chairman of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association's Technology Committee and past Chairman of the St. Petersburg Bar Association's Trial Practice Section. When rating Mr. Goodis' legal ability and ethical standards, Martindale-Hubbell awarded him an AV peer review rating, which is only awarded to lawyers who have reached the height of professional excellence and is recognition, according to Martindale-Hubbell, of the highest levels of skill and integrity. Mr. Goodis is admitted to practice in all State Courts and the Federal Court for the Middle and Northern Districts of Florida.
