Clarissa A. Kang has specialized in the area of employee benefits and ERISA litigation since 2003. Appearing before state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels, she has handled a broad spectrum of litigation, including benefit claims, fiduciary issues, plan administration, single employer and multiemployer plans, withdrawal liability, delinquent contributions, plan reimbursement and subrogation, non-ERISA benefit plans (such as governmental plans and church plans), and class action claims. In addition to serving as an advocate in active litigation, Clarissa advises and represents retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and plan fiduciaries in investigations and agency actions commenced by the U.S. Department of Labor, the Internal Revenue Service, and U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
She is a frequent presenter on ERISA litigation, plan administration, benefit claims administration, and fiduciary responsibility.
Clarissa is a recognized leader in diversity and inclusion matters, having been awarded the Minority Bar Coalition’s Unity Award in 2015 and serving on diversity and inclusion committees within Trucker Huss and the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section.
