Prior to joining Jackson Lewis in 2010, Mr. Amiot was a labor and employment partner in the Baltimore office of DLA Piper.

Mr. Amiot regularly defends clients in employment-related litigation, including wage and hour disputes, employment discrimination and sexual harassment suits, whistleblower claims, ADA and FMLA litigation, wrongful discharge suits, and administrative charges across the country. Mr. Amiot has extensive experience in every phase of litigation, from discovery to trial to appeal. He is well known for his success rate in the early stages of lawsuits and other employment disputes through dispositive motions and favorable settlements, rendering his clients devoid of liability and saving them significant fees and costs.

Mr. Amiot also advises clients on plant closings, mass layoffs, and other reductions in force; compliance issues; restrictive covenants; executive compensation and employment agreements; litigation avoidance; and limiting liability in all aspects of employment decisions, from hiring to termination.  He has conducted corporate internal investigations on behalf of senior management and boards of directors in matters involving allegations of fraud, kickbacks, misappropriation of funds, and other related whistleblower complaints. 

Mr. Amiot also advises management regarding union avoidance issues, collective bargaining, and matters before the National Labor Relations Board.   He has represented companies in labor arbitrations across the country.

Mr. Amiot regularly provides advice to corporate clients regarding the employment implications of proposed mergers and acquisitions.  That advice often results from Mr. Amiot’s ability to lead and coordinate teams of lawyers who conduct the necessary and extensive corporate due diligence reviews in connection with proposed deals.He is a frequent speaker at client seminars and conducts in-house training on a regular basis.  His presentations include:  "Understanding and Avoiding Sexual Harassment" (February/March 2009), "What Is And How To Avoid Sexual Harassment," a one-on-one training presentation to a client’s management employee involved in inappropriate workplace conduct (April 2008), "A Guide To Avoiding Liability" (April 2006), "Union Avoidance Training" (March 2006), and "How and Why Unions Organize” (February 2006).Among his publications experience, Mr. Amiot is a Contributing Editor to The Developing Labor Law. He is also the author of "Watch Out For The New (And Old) Pay-Docking Restrictions," Maryland State Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law Newsletter (Fall 2004).  Two important ERISA subrogation decisions of his are noted in "Legal News," BNA’s Pension & Benefits Reports (May 6, 2003; December 30, 2003).

Mr. Amiot received his B.A. in English cum laude from the University of Utah in 1988.  He earned his J.D. from The George Washington University in 1993, where he was a Member of the Moot Court Board.  Mr. Amiot is on the Board of Directors of Everyman Theatre.
