Brigid E. Heid regularly advises her clients on matters involving employment and how to cost effectively solve problems that arise. Her practice focuses on the protection of intellectual property and trade secrets from unfair competition, often by utilizing restrictive covenants (including agreements like noncompetition, non-disclosure/confidentiality, non-solicitation and work-for-hire). Resolving employment disputes encompasses matters faced by businesses such as employee discipline, discrimination, harassment, hiring/firing, wages and hours (as well as overtime), employee classification, leave and insurance coverage. Additionally Ms. Heid has handled a range of other business issues including contract disputes and stock purchase agreements. Her work takes her before both federal and state courts as well as administrative agencies. Ms. Heid is a member of the Firm and is heading up the employment practice in our Columbus office.
Even though Ms. Heid has considerable litigation experience, she knows that alternative dispute resolution or mediation may be a better, and more cost effective, solution in some situations. Ms. Heid has represented clients throughout the course of arbitration, including negotiations, mediation and binding arbitration. Her exposure to ADR began in law school where Ms. Heid was the articles editor at the Ohio State University Dispute Resolution Journal. She continues ADR in her practice today.
A frequent speaker, Ms. Heid has presented at a number of seminars on employment and business asset protection topics. She has written articles as well.
Besides law Ms. Heid has many other interests. She and her husband have adopted several rescue dogs and enjoy vacationing in the outdoors. Golf is one of her primary avocations. Painting is another. While Ms. Heid currently resides in Upper Arlington, she is originally from Fremont, Ohio.
