Allison Serafin is a Partner in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina office of Jackson Lewis P.C. She is a native North Carolinian who spent the early part of her professional career working with Delta Air Lines in the International "In Flight Service" department where she enjoyed the opportunity to use her wide range of foreign language skills traveling to numerous foreign destinations. Upon receiving a leave of absence from Delta to attend law school, Ms. Serafin returned to North Carolina to attend Campbell University.
Initially, Ms. Serafin represented primarily employees while litigating employment law, Constitutional law and civil rights cases in North Carolina and Federal Appellate courts. Now, Ms. Serafin represents employers in many of the same areas of litigation in which she formerly represented employees. With this unique litigation background, Ms. Serafin has developed a keen insight into the legal arguments and strategies she now uses in her representation of employers though all stages of employment litigation.
Ms. Serafin has defended numerous employment discrimination lawsuits including multiparty lawsuits and has obtained favorable outcomes for a wide variety of employers. She routinely defends litigation brought by the EEOC in single and multiparty lawsuits. She also successfully handles complaints before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the North Carolina Department of Labor. Her practice includes advice and counsel to clients on discrimination related matters such as those based on Title VII, the ADEA, the ADA as Amended, the FMLA, as well as wage and hour matters. Additionally, Ms. Serafin advises employers through in-house investigations related to Charges of Discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and Complaints filed with the Department of Labor. She is a frequent guest lecturer on various evolving areas of law, most recently those under Title VII, the ADA and the ADEA.
Ms. Serafin was selected as a North Carolina Rising Star in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 editions of North Carolina Super Lawyers magazine in the area of Employment and Labor Law. No more than 2.5 percent of North Carolina attorneys are named to the Rising Star list each year. Ms. Serafin has also been selected among North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” in the area of “Employment” as published by Business North Carolina magazine. She was also named to “The Best Lawyers in America” in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. She is also AV rated for the highest level of professional excellence amongst her peers.
Ms. Serafin has written a number of articles on workplace law topics and frequently advises employers regarding their legal obligations under both federal and North Carolina law. Ms. Serafin is admitted to practice law in North Carolina State and Federal courts. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Ms. Serafin is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Labor/Employment sections as well as the Wake County Bar Association.
Ms. Serafin received her B.A. with Distinction in 1991 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and she earned her J.D. in 2003 from Campbell University.
